I am asked every once in a while how big an element is on a certain mould. Birds, Frames, Horses, Dogs… Sometimes mold size matters! HA But really, How Big Are IOD Molds???
I spent two days this week on the computer in a graphics program placing a six inch by ten inch grid over the image of 26 moulds to give an approximate measurement of each one. The measurements are probably not exact, but it’s close enough for project planning.
That giant sunflower is approximately five inches in diameter. Those mermaids?? Ten inches long!!!
I placed a photo with the measurement grid in each mould’s listing. To see all of the moulds, click here: IOD Moulds
For Some Projects, Casting Size Is Important!
One of my favorite creators and fellow IOD stockist, Debi Beard of Debi’s Design Diary designed a gorgeous dresser using the IOD Sea Sisters mould. She used the mermaids as drawer pulls making the size of these lovely swimmers very important. They needed to be long enough to bend a bit and still allow room for her hand between the pull and the drawer face. She made a video of it which I’ve linked below.
Josie of the IOD Sisters created these simple yet delightful napkin rings out of IOD Air Dry Clay, the Birdsong Mould and the Lock and Key Mould. It was important that she choose castings that would fit within the confines of the top and bottom rings of the can but that would also balance nicely with the designs of the other napkin rings she had already created so that they’d come together nicely as a set. Here’s a video tutorial below:
**I’d love to hear about a time when the size of the mould casting was key to your project design. Tell me about it in the comments.
