Did you know that Halloween spending measures in the billions? BILLIONS! Construction of these these wooden block Halloween decorations began in August and I had them in my booth by September 1. I sold at least $200 worth before Halloween. They were priced in sets of all five characters for$39.95 and sets of three pumpkins (no faces) for $19.95. My shop owner asked me for individually priced characters and that’s where I lost count of exactly how many sold.
Ghostly Trio
The first video in the Wooden Block Halloween Decorations series was the Ghostly Trio Craft Kit. The kit included everything you’d need to duplicate this project. A small re-poured jar of Black Velvet, Vintage Linen, and Crystal Clear Chandelier Liquid Patina along with the Faces stencil and three wooden blocks cut to size. I didn’t sell a single kit. Not on my website and not on Etsy either.
Pumpkins & Jack-o-Lanterns
The second video in the series was published on Debi’s Design Diary’s DIY A-gogo YouTube channel. It covered the pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns. The supplies included Summer Crush, Black Velvet, Crystal Clear Chandelier, and part of my extensive Costco ribbon collection to make the stems.
Frankenstein
The third video in the series covered the Frankensteins. I painted the block green first. For some reason, I switched between Gypsy Green and Fancy Farm Girl. You can see in the video thumbnail below that the Fancy Farm Girl is on the guy in the middle. Next, I painted the hair on each block in Black Velvet and then added each face with Black Velvet and Vintage Linen. I sealed each character with Crystal Clear Chandelier. It isn’t necessary, but when you pack them away the paint will rub off on its friends.
Black Cat and Mummy
I combined the black cat block and the mummy block because the prep was the same as other characters. The cats were done in Black Velvet and the mummies in Vintage Linen. The cat’s whiskers were made with strings pulled out of a burlap coffee sack. The Cat was sealed with Crystal Clear Chandelier.
